An extraordinary Museum quality vintage hand-carved nicho-style retablo with offering drawer.  Vintage, Peruvian, hand-painted with the images of Joseph, Mary, Baby Jesus and perhaps a wise man.

A hand-painted Nativity scene on canvas is the center of this extraordinary hand-carved retablo piece with a shallow offering drawer typically used to hold a prayer, an ex voto or something of importance to the faithful…a lock of hair, a picture, Milagros, etc. 

The carving is “nicho-style” in that it is deeply three-dimensional with an additional niche or shelf located above the offering drawer which can also hold a small item of importance such as a Milagro. 

The carving is deep with shades of deep red and blue gilded in gold.  The piece itself stands out from the wall with a 1” depth.   An outstanding, highly collectible piece of hand-crafted religious folk art.
