An 8” tall carved wooden batea hand-painted with an image of a Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos adelita or woman soldier.
Bateas are hand-carved wooden “trough” bowls typically used throughout Mexico, South and Central America to knead dough and mix masa for tortillas.
This small version of a batea has been transformed with hand-painted secular art of a skeleton adelita – woman soldier – who were famous in the Mexican Revolution for wearing their best dresses and lipstick while in battle.
It measures roughly 8 inches in height, 3.5 inches in width. Ready to hang, primary colors are black, red, green, gold and aubergine.
