Authentic Mola - Tropical Parrot In Jungle
Measuring 7" x 7," this mola features a brightly colored parrot on a black background.
In the native language of the Kuna Indians, "mola" means shirt but morphed into being the term for the intricately hand-embroidered and reverse-appliquéd panels that were incorporated into front and back of the tribe's traditional blouses. Today, mola panels can be the removed, vintage panels taken from a discarded blouse or created as stand-alone art pieces that can be used in quilts, matted and framed as colorful, one-of-kind art pieces or inserted or appliquéd into denim jackets, jean pockets or purses.
Authentic molas continue to be made in and around the San Blas islands of Panama and are considered quite collectible.
